FVG Construction & Maintenance Ltd is a fast-growing construction company based in Galway. While the firm has only been in business since 2012, its directors Val and Feithin Gorham have over 20 years’ experience in the construction of all types of buildings in the West of Ireland and beyond.
With the country still in the midst of the recession, the Gorham brothers took the brave decision to set up their own company six years ago. From humble beginnings, they have developed FVG Construction & Maintenance Ltd into one of the leading construction firms in the West. Employing a 28-strong team of experienced management and tradesmen, Val and Feithin never fail to find the correct balance between time, cost and quality. They have the resources to meet your individual needs and also have experience and training in the Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS). FVG are registered CIRI, SEAI and CIF contractors, and have implemented a Quality Health & Safety Management System which has been awarded Safe-T-Cert accreditation.
“We started off doing renovations and progressed from there to social housing and maintenance work. We then branched into school extensions and new builds,” Val explains.
“It was a bit of gamble setting up a company in the middle of a recession, but both of us were determined to succeed. Feithin comes from a sub-contracting background and my background is in site management, so we were able to combine our experience of both. We had a turnover of €5 million last year and expect that figure to rise to between €6 and €7 million this year.
“We have built up a large client-base in both the private and public sectors by providing a reliable, clean, friendly and value-for-money service. We pride ourselves on our ability to complete projects on time and within budget, not to mention our attention to detail, hands-on approach and quality workmanship.”
FVG’s construction division covers new builds, renovations, extensions and groundworks for the domestic, commercial and industrial sectors. The company has successfully completed all types and sizes of projects, including new house builds, rear, front and side extensions, general domestic and specialised roofing, velux rooflights, chimneys, basements, shuttering and formwork, attic conversations, internal renovations, kitchen replacements, general plumbing and electrical works, window and door replacements, floor replacements, drylining, insulation upgrades, heating upgrades, garden walls, paths and paving.
“We are fully insured, implement the highest standards of Health & Safety management and guarantee total customer satisfaction. We will visit your site and give you our initial advice, formulate your ideas and provide you with a free quotation,” Val adds.
FVG’s maintenance division covers all aspects of property maintenance, both domestic and commercial. The maintenance service is available in 12 counties in the West, Midlands and North-West regions, and has operatives strategically located throughout this area. The company offers a responsive repair service, while its pricing strategy is extremely competitive and designed to meet clients’ needs 24 hours a day. Maintenance services include plumbing, wiring, carpentry, roofing, fascia / soffits, drainage, painting and plastering. FVG provides a maintenance service to Galway City Council, Galway County Council and Cluid Housing (Galway) among others.
FVG has completed numerous projects in the educational, commercial, industrial and residential sectors to the highest standards. It has delivered educational projects for the Department of Education and for various school Boards of Management, often working in ‘live’ school environments and negotiating the intricacies of school building works with minimal disruption. FVG has worked on the following schools in Co. Galway: Carna Secondary School, Castlegar National School, Killeeneen National School, Craughwell, Kinvara National School, Lurga National School, Scoil Baile Nua, Moycullen, St. Brigid’s Vocational School, Loughrea and St. Paul’s Secondary School, Oughterard.
The Galway city-based contactor is currently carrying out new builds at Archbishop McHale College in Tuam and Scoil Mhuire in Oranmore. Archbishop McHale College is a €2.1 million development which involves the removal of selected prefabricated temporary teaching accommodation units; construction of new part single storey and part two storey college building, including five mainstream classrooms; two specialist classrooms, associated stores, toilets, administrative spaces, circulation areas, a special needs unit, including two based classrooms and ancillary accommodation; construction of on-site turning and set down parking areas; relocation of the existing main entrance gate to provide new vehicular and pedestrian access and egress points.
The Oranmore project includes the construction of eight new classrooms and an ASD unit. MCHO (McCarthy and O’Hora) from Portlaoise are the architects on both projects. FVG has also recently completed a €1.1 million rebuild of the GRETB adult training centre in Loughrea.
As a Galway company, FVG was delighted to be awarded the contract to construct the operations depot on the new M17/M18 motorway between Gort and Tuam for the Direct Route Consortium comprising Lagan, Roadbridge, John Sisk and Strabeg. This project was completed last March at a cost of €1.5 million. The family-run business has also carried out refurbishments and fitouts in the pharmaceutical sector for Mylan in Galway and Aerie in Athlone.
Looking to the future, Val concludes by saying: “We are focused on making greater inroads into the public works sector and expanding our pharma and industrial customer-base. We foresee large-scale investment in public housing and will be tendering for such projects.
“Feithin and I would like to take this opportunity to thank our clients for their continued support and loyalty. We’re committed to catering for all their construction and maintenance needs.”
