Thirteen Painting Contractors have had a quick rise under David Flanagan since setting up shop in the capital six years ago. Building Ireland caught up with the Managing Director of what is now a thriving business to learn more.
These are busy times for 13 Painting Contractors and company founder and owner David Flanagan intends to keep things that way for the foreseeable as his venture continues to grow year on year.
Based in Barn Elms Industrial Estate in Churchtown, Dublin 14, with an office also located in Dartry, Dublin 6, the company has built up a solid reputation around the capital for delivering professional commercial painting with a competitive value for money, offering a seven-day a week service, night or day so as not to disrupt the clients business.
It had been the vision for David when he first took the decision to go out on his own back in 2013 and it’s been very much a success story to date, with his workforce growing to double figures and plenty of projects lined up for the first half of 2019.
“Right now we have 16 staff working here and basically what we do is everything to do with decorating,” David explained.
“I’d have started off working in my father’s business, Brian Flanagan Painting, before taking the decision to set-up this company.
“Now we’re flat out doing Lidls for Mannings, hospitals as well – everything you can think of.”
Trading today as 13 Painting Contractors, David Flanagan Ltd has been working in the industry for the past decade-and-a-half now.
David himself is a fourth generation painter from the Flanagan Family Industry which is steeped in industry traditions dating back to the early last century.
The Flanagans have always taken serious pride in the application of their trade and David has carried on the tradition of guarantee the highest finish to all of his company’s work.
“Our superior craftsmanship and application of our services help us produce some of the highest standards in the industry today,” the company’s website (www.13painters.ie) proudly states.
The excellent craftsmanship at 13 Painting Contractors comes down to the fact that all of their employees are efficiently trained and integrated into the values of the company.
It’s these high standards bestowed on the company’s employees which has enabled the business to reach such high standards in delivering what David feels is a superior customer service.
When you delve through the list of projects completed by 13 Painting Contractors in recent years, it’s hard to argue with David’s thoughts.
These past 24 months in particular have seen his team flat out all over the country and the amount of repeat business gained from clients in such a relatively short space of time suggests that 13 Painting Contractors are certainly doing something right.
“2017 through 2018 were very good years for us here and the business itself has been steadily growing every year,” said the Managing Director.
“We’re covering nationwide and recently went down to Nenagh in Tipperary to complete work on a Lidl down there for Mannings Construction.
“We’ve been in Galway and Cork in the past as well. We’ve done work on high-end offices like Dropbox and the New Mater Hospital and St Nicholas of Myra Church as well.”
The company’s decorative services include paperhanging, marbeling, dragging, grainning and colour-washing to name but a few. They also provide signwriting.
13 Painting Contractors work both in the domestic and commercial sectors and have been fortunate to work with some leading organisations and groups such as Temple Street Hospital, Peugeot, the FXB group of bars and restaurants, Cosgrave Developments, WYSE properties, Youngs Auctioneers, The HSE, Government agencies such as An Pobail, Kaneco Kitchens and The Seapoint Dental Clinic to name but a few.
It’s an impressive list of clientele amassed in under six years, so what has been the secret to such quick success?
“We never let a client down,” David put it plainly.
“They know they can rely on us and especially with the office fit-outs when it’s essential that they move in on time.
“Right now we’re working on a big huge bar on Camden Street which is due to open in the summer. It has the biggest screen in Europe going into it and we just started work on it there a week or so ago, so it’s an exciting enough project.
“Just before Christmas we completed work on the Devlin Hotel in Ranelagh for Purefitouts as well.”
Members of the National Guild of Craftsmen and fully Compliant with the CWPS pension fund and have Full Public and Employers Liability Insurance.
David Flanagan himself is a man known for delivering on what he says he will and thus far it has been the case when you look at the projects completed by his business venture since 2013.
Now well into another year, he has never been busier and hopes the trend will continue well into 2020.
“It’s that busy at the moment that we’re actually turning down work. That is how busy it is,” David concluded.
“It hasn’t slowed down at all and we’ve had to find new men recently to current demand from clients.”
