BWC Building Ltd is a new name in the commercial and domestic construction sector backed by over 30 years’ experience. Brian Walsh explains more about his burgeoning Wexford-based company.
While BWC (Brian Walsh Construction) only became a limited company in September 2019, Brian has a wealth of experience and expertise in the building trade spanning more than three decades. He previously operated as a sole trader for 10 years and worked for David Flynn Ltd from 2003 to 2008, during which he was site manager on multi-million euro projects such as the Oncology Ward at Wexford General Hospital, Omniplex Cinema, Wexford, Waterford Castle Housing Development and Champion Sports Outlet, Wexford. Before that, Brian partnered with his cousin Jason Walsh in Walsh & Walsh Contractors, who were main carpentry contractors on large housing schemes during the Celtic Tiger era.

“We are well-known and very trusted in Wexford for quality construction. Our workload doubled last year, despite the impact of COVID-19 and Brexit. We run a good show which is key to retaining customers and attracting new ones.”
Brian has put together a small, but committed and experienced team to deliver a cohesive approach on all construction-related projects that they take on. “It’s a real team effort,” he stresses.
“We employ four people directly who come from carpentry backgrounds and have worked with me for many years. We sub-contract the block-laying, plastering, plumbing, electrical and tiling to the same tried and trusted tradesmen. No job is too big or too small. By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with leading architects and engineers, and using only the very best building products, we’re able to deliver the highest quality construction to our clients.”
In the past year alone, BWC has completed four large home extensions in the Wexford area, two shop fit-outs in Gorey and Ashford, renovated four apartments in Waterford city, carried out maintenance works to Loreto Secondary School, Wexford and demolished / fitted-out a large canteen to a high standard for Kent Stainless in Wexford. In addition, the company undertook demolition work for DPD at their new Wexford depot in late 2019 to make room for additional distribution space.
“We squeezed a lot into 2020 and were able to continue working on the Kent Stainless project during the first lockdown last spring as they were deemed an essential service. COVID-19 has proven to be very challenging for everyone in construction, and we’ve taken all the necessary precautions to ensure the health and wellbeing of our staff and clients.”
While BWC continues to go from strength to strength, Brian is keen for the company not to get too big.
“I’m happy with the size we are now. I’m very hands-on and like to be on-site all the time. If we got any bigger, it would make it harder for me to be able to offer that personal touch we are noted for. I’m always accessible to my customers and want to keep it that way.”
Brian’s love for carpentry and construction began when his father bought him a Black & Decker skill saw for Christmas when he was only 10. “I always wanted to work with my hands,” he explains. At 13, the affable Wexford man got a part-time job working in Colman Doyle’s hardware shop in his hometown. Three years later, he started his apprenticeship as a carpenter and hasn’t looked back since.
