Meeko Construction builds it better

24 Apr , 2026

Established in 2017 by Ryan Meehan, Meeko Construction Ltd has earned a stellar reputation for delivering exceptional projects across the residential, fit-out, commercial and heritage / listed buildings sectors on both sides of the border.

Based in Newry and covering the counties of Armagh, Down, Louth and Dublin, Meeko Construction has grown to employ 17 people directly and many more on a subcontract basis. Whether it’s a new build, housing development, commercial unit or restoration project, the company supports you from day one to final handover.

Ryan is a hands-on builder with over 20 years’ experience in the construction industry. He served his time as a bricklayer before relocating to Australia for eight years during the recession. On returning to Ireland in 2017, he set up Meeko Construction which continues to go from strength to strength by providing unrivalled building services.

“We’re a one-stop shop for all your construction needs,” the young south Armagh man says.

“We look after everything from the initial tender to completion. We pride ourselves on the quality of our work and our proven track record for delivering stylish, well-built and energy-efficient projects across the different spectrums.

“My first project when I came back from Australia was a residential build in Dublin. It took off from there and last year we had 13 active new builds. We started in the south (of Ireland) in 2017 and followed into the north in 2021. We’re now getting into developments, so it’s a very exciting time.”

Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Meeko Construction, with Health & Safety and sustainability also being paramount. From concept to completion, Ryan and his expert team are with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs.

Meeko’s one-stop shop approach ensures that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Newry contractor’s ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of referrals and repeat business it receives from satisfied clients.

By employing highly-skilled people, working closely with design teams and using only the very best building products from local suppliers, this fully-qualified and insured contractor is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients.

“We have an amazing team of bricklayers, plasterers, skilled labourers, carpenters and admin staff who are supported by the same tried and trusted subcontractors, including PF Mechanical and G McGrath Electrical,” Ryan enthuses.

“We enjoy an excellent working relationship with our subcontractors and suppliers. Our main suppliers are Newry Building Supplies, Murdock Builders Newry, Kelly’s building supplies in Warrenpoint and Burren, Haldane Fisher in Newry, Frank’s The Flooring Store, AJ Tiles, AJ Plumbing, Bathline, Lily Bain Bathrooms & Tiles, Oakville Kitchens, Armatile and TileMarket.”

Business is booming on all fronts as Ryan proudly explains: “With regard to new residential builds, we handed over a 2,900 sq. ft. two-storey house in Burren and a 2,800 sq. ft. house with garage in Dromintee towards the end of last year. Currently, we’re building a fabulous 4,400 sq. ft. home in Carrivekeeney, Camlough and are at the stage where we’re laying laminate and vinyl floors and tiling. Another current job is a 1,800 sq. ft. bungalow at Derryleckagh, Newry. It’s built and roofed, and we’re just waiting on windows and starting first fix plumbing and electrical.

“In terms of fit-outs and commercials in the last year, we’ve completed Folks Coffee Shop in Banbridge, City Sips Café in Newry, Brewster Café in Omeath, Co. Louth, Phoenix Bar in Newry, No Bull Gym in Newry, and Feast Café in Rostrevor, Co. Down.

“Built in 1880, Oberon Villa in Omeath was a full restoration which we completed last year. Our latest heritage project is The Church, Rostrevor. We’re constructing two new apartments at the rear of this Grade B-listed building. One is an existing part of the building which we are restoring and the other is a new build with a more modern finish with wooden cladding to blend into the surrounding area, i.e. Kilbroney Forest Park.”

As stated, Meeko Construction has recently branched into property development. To this end, it is currently building six houses consisting of two blocks of semi-detached and two detached.

“Both blocks of semis have been slated with all internal walls built; we had the electricians and plumbers in and started the first fix last week, while the plasterers have started the outside. The bricklayers have started building on the first of the detached houses. We’re putting the houses up for sale in March through DNG Duffy in Dundalk and should have the semis handed over by the end of August. The architect on the project is Joseph Cunningham & Associates in Dundalk,” Ryan reveals.

Passionate about construction, Ryan would like to take this opportunity to thank his clients, suppliers and design teams for their continued support as well as his direct employees and subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.
