Michael Murrihy Construction celebrates 50 years of excellence

23 Oct, 2026

Celebrating 50 years in business, Michael Murrihy Construction Ltd is a trusted name for high-quality construction in the Mid-West.

Specialising in residential and commercial projects, the Ennis-based family business has earned a stellar reputation for delivering projects that not only meet, but exceed client expectations. Michael Murrihy Construction is backed by decades of experience and expertise covering everything from one-off house builds to public sector works.

The company was founded by Michael Murrihy and is now run by his children Kevin, Declan and Mary. Michael is still involved at 80 and is proud to say he has never been idle a day in his life!

“I came to Ennis as a 16-year-old from a farm near Mullagh in West Clare and have been building ever since,” he says.

“I served my time as a carpenter and did a lot of work for Dan McInerney of McInerney Construction before building five houses for him in Dromoland. Dan was one of the best-known builders in Ireland at the time and he got me started on my own. We’ve come through the best and worst of times. The last recession was tough, but we pulled through it thanks to OPW (Office of Public Works) jobs and have gone from strength to strength ever since.”

Asked what the secret to Michael Murrihy Construction’s longevity and success is, Michael replies: “We never got too big which allowed us to keep things under control. Also, we get plenty of repeat business which is testament to the quality of work we do.”

Outstanding workmanship, attention to detail, value-for-money and a commitment to working closely with clients to deliver total satisfaction are the hallmarks of Murrihy Construction, who also place a strong emphasis on Health & Safety and sustainability. From concept to completion, the team is with you every step of the way, ensuring that your new project is designed and built to your specific needs.

Whether your next project is a new build, renovation or extension, Michael Murrihy Construction’s one-stop shop approach will ensure that both the design and building processes are smooth, comfortable and hassle-free. The Co. Clare contractor’s reputation for quality construction and ability to complete projects on time and within the agreed budget is borne out by the high volume of repeat business and referrals it receives from design teams and scores of satisfied clients.

By employing highly-skilled people and using only the very best building products, this fully insured company is able to deliver the highest quality construction to its clients. The Murrihy family directly employs three electricians, one carpenter and one apprentice electrician who are supported and supplemented by the same tried and tested subcontractors, including plasterers Maurice Murphy and Darren Murphy, plumbers Joseph Moloney, Hughie Maguire and Gerry Ryan, block-layers Quilty East Construction and Patrick Hegarty, roofers Rob Madden and Joe Brett as well as fibreglass flat roof installers Midlands Fibreglass.

The long-established building firm’s main suppliers are Chadwicks in Ballysimon, Limerick and Ennis, McMahons Builders Providers on the Dock Road, Limerick and Shannonside Building Supplies in Ennis. Furthermore, the company collaborates with Diarmuid Keane + Associates in Kilkee on many key projects.

“We’re proud to be a family-run business covering Clare, Limerick and further afield,” Mary Murrihy enthuses.

“We have worked hard to establish a good name for ourselves and are always prepared to go the extra mile for our customers. We employ a top-class team who have the knowledge, experience and skill to carry out any build. While new house builds, extensions and refurbishments are our ‘bread and butter’, we also undertake many commercial projects every year.

“Kevin oversees the day to day running of the business ensuring there is enough work ahead of all the lads.  He also looks after the groundworks side of things while Declan looks after the second fixing and carpentry, I take care of customers and facilitate smooth running of the office and dad is still there in the background offering advice and experience. It’s a real family affair.”

Examples of Michael Murrihy Construction’s exemplary work can be found all over the Mid-West. A recent high-profile project was Killaloe Garda Station where a new universal front access was completed on behalf of the OPW. Another recent OPW project involved drainage and pump works at Knockalisheen.

Outlining some of the company’s other recent / current projects, Mary adds: “We’ve extended a creche for Tall Trees Childcare in Castletroy and have also completed renovation works for them at their Childer’s Road creche. We replaced a single derelict vacant bungalow on Strand Line in Kilkee with three modern family townhouses, on an infill site overlooking Kilkee Bay and beach, a couple of years ago and are currently transforming an old hostel which we bought ourselves into two town houses in Kilkee.

“On the commercial side, we installed loading bays and a refrigerated unit for Real Ingredients in Raheen Business Park, Limerick. There’s a lot of variety to what we do.”

As the team at Michael Murrihy Construction celebrates a milestone anniversary, they would like to take this opportunity to thank their clients, suppliers and design teams for their unwavering support as well as their subcontractors for their hard work, dedication and expertise.

Here’s to the next 50 years!
